Digital Citizenship Series
Digital FootptintFirst impressions these days are DIGITAL impressions. What will yours say about you? Do first impressions really matter?
Covered in this session: What makes a "digital footprint"? Real-life consequences of your online image: scholarships, recruiters, employers. A look at "default" setting in social media and how to make them more private. "Friends" and "Followers"--the importance of maintaining a smaller social circle. Supplement this course with: Online Etiquette; Protecting Yourself Resources used in all sessions: www.commonsensemedia.org, www.netsmartz.org Protecting Yourself: Privacy Settings and Public ProfilesToo often students will add a new app or agree to an online business accessing their profile without bothering to check the default privacy settings.
How can students better protect themselves, be "invisible" in an online search, and steer clear of location-revealing posts and GPS use? This session will walk through the basics of online protection for several of teen's most-used apps and games. Online EtiquetteTexting and posting online clearly isn't the same thing as writing an essay or talking to someone in person. So, what does that mean exactly when it comes to communicating effectively and accurately in with a few keystrokes?
